Hey y'all, travel tip number 24 comin' atcha

At first I tried hard to stiffle my "y'all's," (wow a lot of stuff going on there) but I soon realized it's a great conversation starter. It's usually followed by "y'all? Where are you from?" Not just by fellow American travelers, most locals hear it and know it as American South.

Also, mastering using your hands to describe what you say (like holding a fake camera and dramatically pressing a nonexistent shutter button) is incredibly beneficial. We have a hard time understanding their accents, but so do they with ours. I've definitely learned to speak slowly, clearly (not loudly), and with gestures to get my point across, and it's made a world of difference. (Plus I guess there's the added benefit that everyone back home wont have to yell at me to speak slower.)
